Description & Other Info

PreSchool Aquatics

Preschool Level 1 is designed for children 3 years of age. They will learn to be safe in the water and develop beginner swim skills such as blowing bubbles, floating, gliding, and beginning arm and leg movement in a fun environment with their instructor.

 Exit Assessment: With Support

-Enter water independently and travel at least 5 yards, submerge mouth and blow bubbles and move safely to an exit.

-While in shallow water, glide on front at least 2 body lengths and float on back for 3 seconds and recover to vertical position.

Preschool Level 2 class is for children 3 to 5 years of age. They will further develop safety and swim skills learned in PreK Level 1 such as gliding and recovering and floating on front and back more independently. They will learn combined leg and arm movement on front and back and treading water in a fun environment with their instructor.

 Exit Assessment: With Assistance

-Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to back for 15 seconds, recover to vertical position.

-Glide on back at least 2 body lengths, roll to front, recover to vertical position.

-Swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for at least 3 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front, continue swimming at least 3 body lengths.

Learn-to-Swim School Age Levels

Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills is designed for children 5 years and up to learn how to enjoy the water safely. Students will learn basic skills such as front and back floats, kicking, gliding, and combining basic arm and leg movement.

Exit Assessment: Independently

-Travel at least 5 yards, bob 5 times, safely exit the water.

-Glide on front at least 2 body lengths, roll to back float for 5 seconds, recover to vertical position.

Level 2 -Fundamental Aquatic Skills will lead to independence in the water. Students will further develop Level 1 skills of floating and gliding with rolling and recovery. They will also begin to use their arms and legs in a consistent manner, focusing on using the correct motions in the water as well as rotary breathing.

Exit Assessment: Independently

-Push off bottom, move into treading or floating for 15 seconds, swim on front or back for 5 body lengths, exit water

-Back float 15 seconds, roll to front, recover to vertical position

-Push off and swim using combined arm and leg actions for 5 body lengths, roll to back, float for 15 seconds, roll to front, continue swimming for at least 5 body lengths.

Level 3 - Stroke Development. Students will begin front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, and diving. They will also learn life-saving swim techniques such as treading water and survival floating. Level 3 students should feel comfortable in the Lap Pool.

Exit Assessment: Independently

-Jump into deep water, recover to surface, maintain position by treading or floating for 1 minute, swim front crawl and or elementary backstroke for 25 yards to exit water

-Push off in a streamlined position, swim front crawl 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, swim elementary backstroke 15 yards, exit water.

Level 4 -Stroke Improvement and Refinement. Students will become efficient at rotary breathing (breathing to the side) during the front crawl. They will also continue to learn breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, and develop diving skills. Students will practice distance swimming, starting with 15 to 25 yards of each stroke.

Exit Assessment: Independently

-Feet first entry into deep water, swim front crawl for 25 yards, change direction and swim elementary backstroke for 25 yards.

-Swim breaststroke for 15 yards, change position and swim back crawl for 15 yards.

-Submerge and swim 3-5 body lengths underwater, return to surface, exit water.
