Annual City of Aspen Community Picnic September 12, 2010 11am-2pm at the Aspen Golf Club Red Mountain Grill will cater a FREE Bbq style lunch for the first 750 people. Also enjoy a wide array of games and activities for everyone! Miniature golf, bocci ball, bounce house, frisbee, soccer, football, kite flying, tennis, kids activities, and more! Don't forget to bring Fido - this event is dog friendly! Transportation Info Go Car Free - walk, ride, or take the bus to the event. Join 7-time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong for the Roche Constructors Wapiyapi Classic charity ride in Aspen, Colorado on September 26, 2010! 100% of the proceeds from the event will benefit Wapiyapi, a non-profit organization which provides hope and support to families affected by childhood cancer.
The event includes scenic 25- and 50-mile courses, both of which start and finish at Paepcke Park in Aspen.
Incredible prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers! Top three prizes include a Trek bike, a piece of jewelry worth approximately $5,500 from Hadley’s House of Diamonds and an Aspen weekend getaway for two including hotel, dinner and lift tickets compliments of The Little Nell and Aspen Skiing Company. The top two teams after pool play will play for the Championship. The other two teams will play a consolation game. Rec ?A? There are five teams within the division. There will need to be a game played on Thursday night to avoid any teams playing twice on Friday or three times on Saturday. All teams will play each other. The top two teams will play for the championship. Open ? There are 12 teams at the level. The teams were divided at random into three divisions. Teams will play all the teams within their division. The top team from each division will advance to the semi-final games. Of the remaining nine teams, the team with the best overall record will advance to the semi-final round to make up the four teams. The winners of the semi-final games will advance to the Championship game. The remaining eight teams will play a consolation game. Tentative date for the 2011 Owl Creek Chase is February 10-13. The Owl Creek Chase is a 21k freestyle cross-country ski race from the Snowmass Cross Country Center to the Aspen Cross Country Center. May 21 - Ride for the Pass is a charity bike race/recreational ride to benefit the Independence Pass Foundation. The Ride follows the traditional route from the Winter Gate, 4 miles east of Aspen to the Independence Ghost Town. The ride gains approximately 2,500 feet of elevation from 8,500' to 11,100' over a 10 mile course. For more information www.independencepass.org. May 22 - Aspen Criterium is an action packed 10 corner criterium in the heart of downtown Aspen. This .9 mile loop will challenge even the most seasoned racers. The Aspen Cycling Criterium is not your typical 4 corner race, try 10! This fast paced, energy packed bicycle race is held in the heart of downtown Aspen and runs heats of athletes at speeds of 28 mph and higher around a .9 mile track with sharp curves on road bikes. Race course is a loop route on closed city streets. Participants are local and state racers as well as those from around the Front Range looking to do something unique in Aspen.
