Parks, Trails & Open Space Overview

Whether you seek a quiet neighborhood park with the sound of rushing water, a large open space with mountain vistas, or world-class recreational facilities, the City of Aspen Parks system has something to offer you.

The Aspen Parks & Recreation Department has made a commitment to our visitors to provide a diversity of experiences for all to enjoy. The natural beauty that serves as a backdrop to each of our parks, recreational facilities, and open spaces will inspire you as you explore our wonderful system. The main goal in design and layout of our parks system is to incorporate and reflect the natural surroundings. Aspen welcomes you to recreate and participate in this unique experience that you will see and feel however and wherever you go in Aspen.

Enjoy Aspen's recreational facilities which include over 30 world-class parks  ranging from small neighborhood parks with playgrounds to over 1,300 acres of vast open spaces  with mountain vistas and streams.  Serviced by 22 miles of pedestrian/bicycle trails  and over 90 kilometers of cross country/nordic trails.  Aspen parks and athletic fields create spaces for picnics, quiet contemplation, weddings, soccer and rugby games, and our downtown pedestrian mall provides premier international people-watching where children can play in the DeWolf/Fulton fountain.

Development and management of the natural beauty of the City of Aspen's community forest assets are ensured by the efforts of our Natural Resources and Forestry  staff.
