Mind Our Dust - May 13th - 15th

Mind Our Dust - May 13th - 15th

Construction on our lobby and mezzanine floor will take place from Saturday, May 13th through Monday, May 15th.

During this time there will be no lobby access (no front desk, no climbing tower, no concession stand).

Please look for signs indicating alternate entrances into the building. Staff members will be outside to point you in the right direction.

Cardio Room will be available through the patio/cardio door.

Weight Room will be accessed through the Ice Mezzanine/Jr. Hockey door.

The Pool and Locker Rooms will be available from the outside stairs adjacent to the parking lot.

Chess Wizards Summer Camp: Ages K - 8th Grade

When: June 12 - 16 or July 17 - 21: Monday - Friday: 9am - 3pm

Program Fee: $275

Where: Birthday Room at the Aspen Recreation Center

Join us this summer for tons of challenging chess lessons, exciting games, and cool prizes. You'll improve your chess skills, meet new friends, and work out your most powerful muscle - your brain! Our camps include fun team chess games (like bughouse), recess time (of course), snacks, tournaments, and puzzles. Each camper receives a Chess Wizards t-shirt, trophy, and puzzle folder. Unleash your brain power and spend some of your break time with Chess Wizards!

Lifeguard Certification Class - May 2017

Lifeguard Certification Class - May 2017

The ARC is offering a Blended Learning Lifeguard Certification Course through the American Red Cross consisting of online classes and in-water practice.
Dates:
Tuesday, May 30th - 8am-5pm
Wednesday, May 31st - 8am - 5pm
Thursday, June 1st - 8am - 5pm
Cost: $270 paid to the ARC at registration

Must be 15 years old on the day class begins and pass the prerequisites of swimming 300 yards and completing the brick test.

Glide Fit - New Fitness Class at ARC!

Glide Fit - New Fitness Class at ARC!

Love the pool? Want to get in shape without swimming laps? Then Glide Fit is the class for you!

This class takes place on a floating fitness mat and is an aquatic based low impact workout integrating high intensity interval training, core workouts, and
stretching. Wear workout clothes that can get wet or a bathing suit. Must be able to swim.

When: Wednesdays: 6:30 - 7:30pm at the ARC lap pool

Cost: Daily Admission to the ARC or Valid Membership

Arrive early - only 10 spots available for the class!

2017 Summer Day Camp

Come play with the Aspen Recreation Department during summer break. All camps are state licensed programs designed for youth 5-11 years old (5 years old must be attending kindergarten) to come have fun with the Recreation Department staff on the days that they don’t have school. Days will be packed full of fun & educational activities

Dates:
June 5th- August 24th
(Camp is held Monday through Friday)

ALL CAMPS WILL MEET AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN CAFETERIA

Day Camp Ages: Camp welcomes youth in the Aspen Valley youth between the ages 5-11 year olds.

NEW!!! CAMPERS WILL BE SPLIT UP INTO THREE DIFFERENT CAMPS 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds, & 9-10 year olds with age appropriate activities.

General Camp Information:
Youth will participate in a state-licensed program with qualified counselors. City of Aspen Day Camp is a State of Colorado licensed program and follows all State Regulations. For rules and regulations, please visit: cdhs.state.co.us

Camper Supplies: All campers need the following supplies for camp every day! - Lunch - Backpack

NEW!!!!!! We are moving to an online registration forms system. We will no longer be taking the paper registration forms. Once parents pay the one time activity fee and register for days. They will be receiving an email from Epack, our online registration site, with a link to fill out and submit the forms. These only have to be completed once a year.

*** Registration must be done 24 Hrs before attending. There is NO day of registration. ***

Proof of Residency Requirement: To receive proof of residency, one of the following must be presented from the primary caretaker of the child you are registering! This must be sent in with Registration forms (1) business day before attending. 1. Tax Assessment

Lyra Classes

Lyra Classes

Aerial hoop (aka lyra) is a circular apparatus suspended from a single point. Build strength, showcase flexibility and learn to flip, turn, roll, pose, and transition between positions. Sessions begin with basic skills and conditioning and gradually progress into fluid choreographed sequences. Learn to love moving in the air and fly in your first class.

We suggest wearing long pants and bringing a long sleeved shirt to class.

Open Aerial Class

During this time Aerial Silk and Lyra are available for personal workouts and training for students working at an intermediate level or above.

Please note there is no instruction during this time and participants must meet minimum skills requirements in order to attend. Please adhere to safety guidelines, wear appropriate attire and respect others using the facility and apparatus.

The City of Aspen’s Parks and Open Space Department is currently hiring for the following seasonal positions starting mid-April or May and ending fall 2017. May include evening and weekend hours as needed. Background check and valid driver’s license required. Position works May through fall 2017. Pay is $17.00 plus per hour depending upon qualifications. Experience in irrigation and parks maintenance a plus. End of season bonus program possible based on performance.

Assists in the construction of City Parks and Open Space projects including public parks, playing fields, storm water ponds and trails. Duties include a variety of work including outdoor handwork, small equipment operation and other duties as assigned. Background check and valid driver’s license required. Work hours are mainly 6:30 am-5:00 pm, Monday-Thursday, but may involve other schedules as needed. Position works mid-April through fall 2017. Pay is $17.50 plus per hour depending upon qualifications. Experience in construction/landscaping/machine operations a plus. End of season bonus program possible based on performance.
