Indoor Pickleball is here!

Indoor Pickleball is here!

Ready for some Pickleball???  When: Saturdays, 10am-2pm 
Where: Aspen Elementary School Gym.
Cost: $10 drop in fee – cash only, please!   Courts: 3 courts available, first come, first serve basis

Equipment: Paddles and indoor balls available for use
One game rotation – play to 11, win by 2 – players shall relinquish the court after completion of one set or one hour, whichever is first.
 
Open gym pickleball is for players of all abilities, except where specified. Players are responsible for following accepted open rotation guidelines. Failure to adhere to building rules may result in one or more of the following actions: warning, request to leave the facility, loss of facility privileges or termination of program time.

Want to get better at sewing? Need a sewing machine to practice on? Start with the basics and progress to more challenging projects under the guidance of our accomplished instructor! Each month will have a different theme!

America's Uphill - March 11

America's Uphill - March 11

The America’s Uphill is a longtime Aspen favorite that attracts hundreds of racers each year. The race brings together snowshoers, runners, Nordic skiers, telemark skiers, and Randonee skiers for a 2.5 mile and 3,000’+ vertical climb up Aspen Mountain.

When: March 11, 2017

Cost: 

$40 pre-registration
$50 day of (from 6-6:30am at the Gondola building ticket office. 

Cost includes pain, raffle, awards, and t-shirt!

The Aspen Golf Club and the Red Mountain Grill have partnered to: allow you to get your swing back on the range, play your favorite course or just have a good time with your friends and family.

Slacklining is a great way to improve balance and make your core strong for any sport or activity. Lines are set up low to the ground for safer, easier walking and learning. No experience needed. We have multiple kinds of lines and set-ups for beginners and experts alike.

2017 Playdayz

2017 Playdayz

Come play with the Aspen Recreation Department! Playdays with Aspen Rec is a state licensed program designed for youth 5-11 years old (5 years old must be attending kindergarten) to come have fun with the Recreation Department staff on the days that they don’t have school. The days will be packed full of fun & educational activities.

2017 Fall Dates: Feb 20th, March 16th & 17th, May 19th

Drop Off: 7:30am - 9:30am
Pick Up: 3:30pm - 5:30pm
Cost: $40 per day

Day Camp Ages: Camp welcomes youth in the Aspen Valley youth between the ages 5-10 year olds. All 5 year olds must be attending kindergarten and provide proof.

Aerial Silks Class

Also known as tissu or fabric, aerial silk is a visually impressive skill combining strength, grace and aerial awareness. Learn to climb, wrap and drop with confidence and agility, increase core and upper body strength and overall flexibility. No prior experience necessary! Form fitting clothing and leggings are recommended.

Lyra Classes

Lyra Classes

Aerial hoop (aka lyra) is a circular apparatus suspended from a single point. Build strength, showcase flexibility and learn to flip, turn, roll, pose, and transition between positions. Sessions begin with basic skills and conditioning and gradually progress into fluid choreographed sequences. Learn to love moving in the air and fly in your first class.

We suggest wearing long pants and bringing a long sleeved shirt to class.

2017 Spring Break

Playdayz with Aspen Rec is a full day camp program designed for youth 5- 14 years old (5 years old must have completed kindergarten to attend) to come have fun with the Recreation Department staff on the days that they don’t have school.

The program cost will be $38 per day online or $40 per day at desk or over phone. 2017 Dates March 27 thru April 3.

Our talented instructor, Elaine Kozel, is certified through The International Tang Soo Do Federation. She is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. Elaine will teach your kids the basics of karate, including self-discipline and gross motor skills. Elaine will also mentor them as they advance in the sport.

Class is held at the Aspen Recreation Center (ARC).

During this time Aerial Silk and Lyra are available for personal workouts and training for students working at an intermediate level or above.

Please note there is no instruction during this time and participants must meet minimum skills requirements in order to attend. Please adhere to safety guidelines, wear appropriate attire and respect others using the facility and apparatus.

Inverted straddle from climb

Foot-locks from climb

Lyra:

3 pull ups

Single knee hang on both legs

Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan Meeting

Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan Meeting

Please join the City of Aspen’s Parks and Engineering staff to discuss the second phase of the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Phase II on Wednesday, February 15th, 2017 from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm at the Sister Cities meeting room in City Hall. This phase of the master plan will seek to get community input on design and layout for the following infrastructure amenities:

- Bicycle boulevards

- Bicycle parking

- Bicycle and pedestrian lane striping and markings

- An east/west corridor through the core

- A north/south corridor from Main to the Music Tent

- Areas of sidewalk improvement priority

A 21K cross-country ski race from the Snowmass XC Center to the Aspen Cross Country Center. The challenging course from Snowmass Village to Aspen presents the very best that Colorado skiing has to offer: tough climbs, scenic views, thrilling descents and excellent snow conditions! Participants can choose between the 9:00am Classic race or 9:30am Skate race. Prize money awarded for the Classic Race only -- $1200 prize purse.
