After 25 years, Tim Anderson to Retire

Timothy J Anderson put in his 25 years with the City of Aspen as it's Recreation Director. He's about to get out while on top of the world.

Come celebrate with his staff, fellow servants, friends and comrades! We're gathering at the Red Mountain Grill at the Aspen Golf Course for some pre-Cinco De Mayo toasts.

4pm until 6pm on Friday, May 5th - then who knows... it's not like it's a special holiday in Aspen or anything.

Please leave a comment (via the "review" section) for Tim online at his special facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AspenRecDirector.

ARC Fitness Center Expansion Update

ARC Fitness Center Expansion Update

The City of Aspen is currently exploring further information regarding the potential Fitness Center Expansion to the Aspen Recreation Center.  While drawings have been conceptual in nature, further detail has been explored in recent months to obtain current cost estimates for the construction of the 5,000 sq. ft. of added space.  Current actions include:

  •  Identification of structural needs
  •  Identification of mechanical upgrades
  •  Conceptual design and interiors
  •  Parking and transportation studies

Once the conceptual information is obtained, a presentation to the Aspen City Council will determine whether to pursue this addition further.  If it is deemed feasible to move forward, then a public process would begin.  This public process would include:

  • Community and neighborhood meetings to answer questions and educate the community what the addition looks like and how it affects the Aspen Recreation Operations.
  • Submission of plans to the Community Development Department, review by Planning and Zoning and further Council Direction.

While the City has taken steps to gather further information about the potential of this expansion, no funding is in place to move forward with final design and construction. Once conceptual information is completed (approximately fall of 2017), Council will decide whether to take the next steps and determine potential funding sources.
