Karate & Martial Arts Info

There will be NO Youth Karate or Youth Mixed Martial Arts for the months of June, July, or August! Check back in next fall to see when classes will resume!

Here at the Aspen Recreation Department we offer several different types of Karate and Mixed Martial Arts classes for adults and youth.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) - integrates Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, American Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Wrestling into one system. Classes emphasize safety and self-defense. Our goal is to create a positive and fun environment in which kids can learn mixed martial arts. All ability levels are welcome!

During each MMA class you can expect the following - warm up drills (focus on agility, conditioning, flexibility, and coordination); striking techniques from an offensive and defensive position; wrestling drills (take downs and submissions from an offensive and defensive position); and various kicking techniques. Train hard, train smart!

Youth Karate - Our talented instructor, Elaine Kozel, is certified through The International Tang Soo Do Federation. She is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do. Elaine will teach your kids the basics of karate, including self-discipline and gross motor skills. Elaine will also mentor them as they advance in the sport.

Class is held at the Aspen Recreation Center (ARC).
