January 25th, 2012

Youth Rugby is a process of developing rugby players from 1st grade through high school. It involves a pathway of development for the game. Youth rugby is for both boys and girls so come on and give it a try!

Aside from being FUN – rugby also lets you run, kick, pass and experience teamwork. It requires a lot of energy and it teaches children to think on their feet by playing a game that does not stop for time outs or breaks in play. Youth rugby also builds self confidence and camaraderie by participating in a sport where sportsmanship is not just a word, but is embraced and expected by the sport worldwide.

Best of all to participate is FREE!

1st-4th grade: Mondays from 3:25-4:30pm beginning January 30-March 19

5-8th grade: Thursdays from 5:30-7:00pm beginning February 2- March 22

A True Winter Wonderland

December 19th, 2011

Sledding, skating, skiing, and snowshoeing all in one spot!? Sounds too good to be true, huh?

For the third year in a row the Aspen Recreation Center has created a true outdoor Winter Wonderland. Complete with outdoor skating, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing all these great outdoor activities are perfect for après or just an afternoon family outing.

Grab your friends and hang on to your hats as you take a ride on the “Whoa Nelly” Sledding Hill! Whether you have fresh new snow or are sledding down the dips and jumps created by other sled goers you’re going to have fun. Bring your own equipment and sled for FREE!

After you’ve finished your ride down the sledding hill strap on your skates and try out the new outdoor skating pond – the ARC-tic Pond. During dusk the lights turn on and the twinkling trees help give it that magical, nighttime ambiance.

You’re not done yet! If you couldn’t fit in all in for one day – come back the next and test out your cross-country skiing or snowshoes skills. With 3 trails that take you around the Aspen Recreation Center it’s the perfect way to spend Aspen’s blue bird days outdoors. If you’re looking for a more athletic endeavor take a look at the cross-country map that boasts over 90 kilometers of trails from Snowmass to Aspen.

All of the activities are free with your own equipment, otherwise rental packages are available inside at the Aspen Recreation Center. Cost is just $6 for skates, sleds, and snowshoes, $5 for sled and snowshoes, and just $3 for skate rentals.

When you’re ready to warm up just head inside for more fun: lazy river, waterslide, climbing wall, indoor skating rink, cardio and weight rooms and more!
