Course Layout

The Aspen Golf Club is located two miles from downtown Aspen. With four sets of tees, the course accommodates all levels of play. Water is featured on almost every hole; this is one of the course's distinctive traits. The course design is a Parkland style, which is defined by undulating greens, with water coming into play on 14 of 18 holes. From the back tees, the course measures 7165 yards, making it known as one of the longest municipal courses in the state.

The entire course accentuates views of the Continental Divide, Pyramid Peak, Mt. Hayden, Independence Pass, Hunter Creek Valley, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk Mountain. The Club is also a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Along with offering breathtaking scenery, the Aspen Golf Club gives you an always-challenging golf experience.

The following is a description of all 18 championship holes:

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 1

#1 par 4, 421 yards

A tee shot to the right of the fairway bunker favors an approach shot to the green that does not have to carry the bunker. An elevated green and a bunker protecting a front to back sloping green make good distance control essential. To be long is a tough up and down to most pin positions.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 2

#2 par 4, 428 yards

Accuracy is far more important than length. A narrow landing zone is protected by water on the right and out of bounds on the left. Correct distance off the tee is mandatory. A long second shot may be required in to one of the fastest and toughest greens on the course. The green is well protected by two bunkers in front and has little room behind the green before the native grass comes into play.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 3

#3 par 3, 207 yards

Another challenging green and club selection is important. Be sure to take the wind into account. A shot over the green will make for bogey and one short can easily find the water or the bunker.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 4

#4 par 4, 415 yards

Water in the elbow of this dogleg right is shown only by the slightly elevated mound to the right of the fairway and aiming stick. Bite off as much as you dare. A well-played tee shot could put you over the water and 100 yards from the green. The conservative play is to hit straight at the aiming stick in the fairway, leaving you 175 to 150 yards out.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 5

#5 par 4, 445 yards

Four of the hardest holes on the course are now behind you. The best approach angle to the green is from the right side of the fairway. Your second shot must be on the same tier as the pin for a chance at birdie.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 6

#6 par 4, 398 yards

Have your camera ready. The teeing ground provides one of the best views of Mount Hayden and Pyramid Peak. A slight dogleg left requires a tee shot over the mounding on the left side of the fairway. This allows for the largest margin of error to land in the fairway.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 7

#7 par 5, 566 yards

Many players try to go for the green in two. Your safe first shot is to lay up between the two ponds. An attempt to go for the green in two can result in finding the water on the right or the trees on the left. A very large sloped green is easy to reach, but don't be fooled. Many a player has stared birdie down only to three putt this fast green.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 8

#8 par 3, 229 yards

Hold this green and avoid the bunker to the left front. With a large green, this hole can play at least one club different from forward to back pin placements.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 9

#9 par 4, 439 yards

The #1 handicap hole on the course for men sends you uphill back toward the clubhouse. A big drive is required for most. Be wary of the trees and ravine on the right and out of bounds on the left. Even a long drive requires another long shot in to the green. Par is a tremendous score.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 10

#10 par 4, 356 yards

A dogleg left, you will want an accurate iron shot off the tee to the target pole in the fairway. Out of bounds and water on frame the fairway.  Downhill into the green, it's receptive but don't be long.
Aspen Golf Club - Hole 11

#11 par 4, 443 yards

This hole provides spectacular views of Independence Pass beyond a beautiful waterfall in the pond. On the right side of the fairway, the pond restricts trying to cut off the dogleg. A good second shot will have to carry a front bunker.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 12

#12 par 4, 439 yards

A straight away 4 par allows a good drive to look at one of the prettiest greens on the course. A large fairway bunker on the right and long native grass with a small grouping of trees on the left define the narrowing of the fairway landing area. This large green is surrounded by long rough and a bunker. It is nestled into a large grove of Aspen trees. Take into consideration that the trees just behind the green will protect your shot from the wind.
Aspen Golf Club - Hole 13

#13 par 5, 562 yards

The gold teeing ground sets off a tight tunnel effect to the fairway.  A narrow slot opens into a wide landing zone. Your second shot requires length and accuracy. Big hitters can try for the green. The low handicapper will be challenged by the decreasing size of the fairway with trees both left and right, and out of bounds far right.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 14

#14 par 3, 166 yards

This hole receives a left to right shot with far more ease. The large pond may intimidate some. Beware of the back right pin placement. There isn't a lot of green over there. Once on the green, look back for a photo opportunity and just maybe catch a glimpse of the mountains reflecting in the pond.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 15

#15 par 5, 517 yards

This is the shortest of the 5 pars. After an open shot to the fairway, there are a lot of visual distractions into the green. The two-tiered pond with a beautiful waterfall lines the right side of the fairway. The large tree on the left can come into play for some. Stay out of the water and hit the proper tier on this large green. A lay up shot leaves you 80 yards and a better opportunity to hit the correct tier for your putting. Eagle is possible.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 16

#16 par 4, 453 yards

This is a difficult 4 par to an elevated green. The fairway bends left around a lake. A safe shot in the fairway still leaves you with a difficult approach over a greenside bunker into the green. Out of bounds lurks on the right.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 17

#17 par 3, 199 yards

This downhill 3 par has a pond on your right. Keep it out of the bunker at the left front of the green. Putt well and you will be rewarded.

Aspen Golf Club - Hole 18

#18 par 4, 425 yards
What a view of Pyramid Peak! This is a risk reward hole. Carry the bunkers off the tee and you have an easy shot into the green or lay-up and avoid the potentially costly fairway bunkers. The choice is yours. It is a great finishing hole surrounded with water and bunkers. This is the signature hole and a great finish.
